10 Best powerful duas for dreams

~March 17, 2023~

One of the most reassuring methods to fall asleep more quickly is to contemplate on the graciousness, protective capabilities, and forgiving character of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. This is one of the most effective ways to help you sleep.

Allah, Lord and Cherisher of the universes, created both day and night in order to provide us with a sense of balance in our lives. After enduring the commotion of the day at work or school, He blesses us with the tranquility of the evening so that we may relax and reflect on ourselves in order to regain our strength for the following day.

His teachings and sayings are indeed one of the most calming ways to drift off to sleep.

Now, let me ask you something: What is the last thing you think about before you go to sleep? Do you recall your day and think about what you have to do the next day? Do you stay awake for a long time thinking about the worries of the next day? Or you can’t sleep due to tiredness and stress?

Bellow you will find 5 of the most effective duas to help you to get better sleep:

Duas for better sleep

Dua upon lying down

In Your Name my Lord, I lay my side down, and in Your Name I rise (in the morning). If You take my soul, then have mercy upon it, and if You release it, then protect it with that which You protect Your righteous servants.

(Sahih al Bukhari)

Dua for protection while asleep

O Allah, You have created my soul and You take it back. Unto You is its death and its life. If You give it life then protect it, and if You cause it to die then forgive it. O Allah, I ask You for strength.

Hisn al-Muslim 103

Here is another one:

‘By reciting it, there will be a guardian appointed over you from Allah who will protect you during the night, and Satan will not be able to come near you until morning.”

Book 8, Hadith 30

This is a pious plea, and despite its perceived simplicity, it packs a powerful punch. Because we are distinct human beings, Allah has sole control over our life. Nobody else can decide our fate or future. We can even repeat this dua in English just before sleep because it is so simple to remember.

Short Dua before sleeping

The next prayer to recite before falling asleep is one that praises God’s grandeur. It is lovely to close our eyes and drift off to slumber with the memory of God on our tongues and, presumably, in our souls. It is a wonderful thing to bring about spiritual and material blessings through glorifying and honouring God. This dua is also very concise and straightforward to recite:

O Allah! In Your Name do I live and die.

(Sahih al-Bukhari)

I frequently repeat this dua when I need to fall slumber because it is brief and easy to remember. It could be the dua you say to yourself every night before going to bed. It merely reaffirms that Allah alone has power over our lives and graves.

Dua for asking for good health

O Allah, verily You have created my soul and You shall take its life, to You belongs its life and death. If You should keep my soul alive then protect it, and if You should take its life then forgive it. O Allah, I ask You to grant me good health.’

Al-Muslim 4:2083

This dua is short but dense with meaning, especially when recited just before bedtime. Just prior to falling asleep, when it is possible that we will spiritually return to Allah (s.w.t.) through death, we pray for Hiss forgiveness and return to him, i.e., we resume our obedience to him.

Dua for glorifying Allah (SWT)

The Messenger of Allah (SWT) said,

“One of Prophet Dawud’s supplications was:

‘O Allah! I ask You for Your Love, the love of those who love You, and deeds which will cause me to attain Your Love.
O Allah! Make Your Love dearer to me than myself, my family and the cold water.’

Riyad as-Salihin 1490

Because our spirit is temporarily removed from us by Allah (SWT) when we sleep, falling asleep is frequently compared to a less severe death. There is a revival of certain beverages. They awaken and begin a new day of their lives. Other entities are those He chooses to preserve. They die in a decisive and irreversible manner.

Therefore, reciting duas prior to going to slumber is one of the most crucial times to do so. There is a chance that those will be your final words before passing away. It is possible that the angels on your shoulders will record it as your final words. Obviously, you want it to be a laudable representation of Allah. (SWT). In light of this, the following duas should be recited prior to retiring to bed.

Duas for good dreams

Here ia dua found in the website sayingofthesalaf.net

Ibn Al-Sunnī records that when ʿĀʾishah – Allāh be pleased with her – wanted to go to sleep she would say:

” ‘O Allāh, verily I ask you for good dreams: dreams that are true and not false, beneficial and not harmful.’

And when she said this, [those who heard her] knew that she would not speak any more until she woke up from the night.

Al-Nawawī, Al-Adhkār ḥadīth 271. Ibn Ḥajr graded it ṣaḥīḥ in Natāʾij Al-Afkār 3:89

May Allah accept your dua and bless you with strong imaan, sabr, happiness and long age with taqwa.

Duas after having a bad dreams or nightmare

I seek refuge in the Perfect Words of Allah from His wrath and punishment and from the evil of His slaves and from the prodding of the devils and from their presence.

What to do when you have just had a bad dream

  1. Spit on your left three times. (Spit: A form of spitting comprising mainly of air with little spittle)
  2. Seek refuge in Allah from satan and the evil of what you saw (Three times).
  3. Do not relate it to anyone.
  4. Turn and sleep on the opposite side to which you were sleeping on previously.
  5. Get up and pray if you so desire.

Dua when one is turning over during sleeping

Aisha (radhi-yAllaahu ‘Anhaa) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (sal-Allaahu ‘alayhe wa sallam) used to say at night if he turned during sleep:

‘None has the right to be worshiped except Allah, The One, al-Qahhaar . Lord of the heavens and the Earth and all between them, The Exalted in Might, The Oft-Forgiving.’

Remember:

It is abundantly obvious that the duas that we repeat before getting into bed deal with related topics. In every possible scenario, we beseech Allah’s protection and forgiveness. We reflect on all that He has accomplished for us and are grateful for the affection that he has shown us.

Duas are prayers that are recited to express gratitude to Allah (s.w.t.), to seek refuge in His protection, to seek His forgiveness, and to beseech His steadfastness. Before going to bed, make it a habit to recite the prayer dua in either Arabic or English. This will help you slumber better.

Because napping is a type of death, we should make it a practise to remember Allah (s.w.t.) for as long as possible before going to sleep. This should be done as often as feasible. When an individual falls asleep, he carries his vitality with him.
